My stamping Joiurney
For this project I followed the relief printing tutorial and made my own stamp, then turned it into a digital design. The goal was to combine analog and digital art, which I thought was actually really cool once I got into it.
Supplies
-
Rubber carving block (from kit)
-
Carving tools
-
Ink pads
-
Paper
-
Phone camera
-
Photoshop (or Photopea/GIMP)
Step 1: Designing the Stamp
I started by sketching out a simple graffiti-style design. I wanted something bold and rounded so it would show up clearly when I stamped it. After that, I drew it onto the rubber block.
Step 2: Carving
Next, I carved around the design. This part took the longest because I had to be careful not to mess up the lines. You can see in my process that the edges aren’t perfect, but that actually gives it more of a hand-made look.
Step 3: Stamping
After carving, I used ink pads to stamp the design onto paper. I tried a few different colors like purple and green. Some prints came out cleaner than others, but I actually liked how some looked a little faded because it gave it more texture.
What I Learned
This project showed me how you can start with something really simple and turn it into something more creative using digital tools. I liked how the imperfections from the stamp actually made the final design look better. It also made me realize how useful it is to combine hands-on work with digital editing.
